Immortal Gillian Shields Books
I was torn between the 3 and 4 stars. It was better than OK but wasn't I really liked it. Somewhere in between. The characters could have been developed a little more. I wasn't really able to relate to any of the characters. There really wasn't a character that I cared about or even that I was rooting for, so-to-say. I knew and understood Agnes better than any of the other characters and she had been dead for over 150 years.
I wish the romance between Sebastian and Evie could have been developed better so you were on their side to be successful. I wanted Sebastian and Evie to succeed, maybe even begin to work together, so I was a little disappointed when that didn't happen. Sebastian seemed a little flaky. Seriously, you love and want to fight or not. It seemed that Sebastian wanted to fight then he didn't. Kind of back and forth like whip-lash. Every time Sebastian and Evie were together you wondered who was going to end it or if they were going to meet the next night.
The book had a really slow beginning. It really did take awhile to get into. I almost put the book away and just said "forget it"; however, eventually the story got better and I could not put it down. It did end in which you were wondering what was going to happen and I was torn between buying the next book or not. The story was not one in which I ran right out to buy the next one. More, put it on my wish list and see if it goes on sale. Intrigued enough to keep on eye on the books, but not enough to buy the next book right away. I mean, I have other books that I am more tempted to read than the next one in this series.
The story plot was really good but sometimes the story seemed repetitive. I enjoyed the mystery, ghost story and romance that were wound into the plot. Once past the beginning part of the book, it was definitely intriguing. I enjoyed all the secrets, murders, secrets and hidden stairways, very Nancy Drew.

Immortal Gillian Shields Books Reviews
Okay, so this isn't really a review. I didn't finish the book, so I don't think I'm really qualified to write a "real" review. Still, I thought I'd throw my two cents in.
I've been a little overwhelmed with all the stuff I have going on and the many books I have to read. With so little time to read, I really hate wasting my time on books that aren't worth it. Immortal wasn't terrible, but it really wasn't very good in my opinion.
Throughout the novel, I couldn't help but feel like I'd read this book before. So many parts of it were clichéd and unoriginal.
The general story a depressed, lonely girl moves into a creepy boarding school that seems to hold dark secrets. While there, she meets a dark, beautiful boy who also seems to be filled with secrets. The girl also discovers that her past is filled with secrets. Apparently there are many confusing secrets...
This novel just didn't hold my attention, and I didn't feel it was worth my time to finish. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you're interested in witches and boarding school, I would recommend A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. This book was very similar to it, but Shields just couldn't pull it off like Bray did.
*****SPOILERS*****
I bought this book back in August 2009. I started reading it and then forgot about it at least 3 times. I finally made myself finish it and I THINK I'm glad I did. The first 1/2 or maybe even 3/4 of the book were dull. Well written but dull. I wish the author could've provided more pockets of excitement in the book. Excitement, intrigue, real romance.... something! I think all of the setting up for the story was good but there was a lot of time spent on parts that didn't need so much time devoted to it therefore making these parts boring. However, the diary entries from well over 100 years ago from Lady Agnes were brilliantly written to eventually coincide with what was currently happening in the book. Once you reach 3/4 into the book and once Helen (seemingly secondary character throughout the book) finally starts revealing what's really happening at Wyldcliffe (High Mistresses, teachers and others serving a secret master to become immortal.) the book becomes much more interesting very quickly. Given the pretty good ending to this installment I believe that I will be picking up the next book. That will be the book to determine whether or not I will continue the series.
This is such a wonderful story, so captivating. I bought and read this book about 3 years ago, the year it came out. I had no idea that it was going to be part of a series, but this year i got back into reading and ordered the second and third book online. So i re-read this book and i loved it again. I feel like i want to be Evie's friend and help her. I describe this book as a haunting tale, a paranormal romance, it's mysterious, and suspenseful. This book also has magic. There are also the mean girls, especially on, the queen bee, who is nothing but mean to everyone. I love how the book goes back and forth from the present to the past, that is how some characters are described.
The characters Evie, the new girl in school. Had no choice but to come to boarding school due to circumstances at home. Helen, who some people call crazy, is Evie's good friend. Sarah, always there for her friends, Helen and Evie. Frankie, Evie's grandmother, who took care of her before she had to go to the Abbey. The teachers of the school weren't friendly or pleasant. They seem pretty heartless, like if they ever smile, it will freak you out, cause they never smile. Evie's father, who is away because he is in the military. I really like how the story unfolds, it literally starts off with a bang. I like stories like this, they don't make you wonder when the action is going to start, or when the main character is going to stop telling us about their feelings, lol. The twist in the end was unexpected, I didn't see it coming.
I give this book 5/5 because i loved it. It is a good story that I can't wait to finish reading, all I need is the last book to come out.
I recommend this book if you like "The Hollow" Series.
