Spiralling Out of Control The Spiralling Trilogy Book 1 eBook Michelle Dennis Evans
Spiralling Out of Control was well written, realistic, and scary. As the mother of a 15-year-old daughter, I would not want my daughter to read this book, however. While rated by the author for 15 and up, I would go with 17 and up. The content is for mature teens only. Sex, booze, drugs, rape, overdose, pimps, and illegal activity are dominant themes, with hints of Christian spirituality. As a Christian, I also struggled with the fact that there wasn't the redemption that I hoped for at the end -- but I suppose, when teens go so far down this path of destruction, they may not be able to be saved, though I know that you are never out of the reach of Jesus Christ. If I had a teen I felt like I was on the brink of losing, this would be a book I would recommend, Christian or non-Christian. I personally don't like dark books, but if I were to recommend one, this would be it. I hope in the sequel that the author will work in the redemption for which the spiritual part of me longed. I would strongly recommend that a parent read this book first before recommending to his or her son or daughter. I believe the content can serve as a good starting point for a troubled teen that needs counseling and direction spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. This book also reminded me of the need to be involved in my daughters' lives, praying for them and being there for them. Spiralling Out of Control may serve as a wake-up call -- our kids need parents who love and care -- all the time, day and night, when it's convenient and when it's not! We need to be available to meet their needs, even when they think they don't need us.

Spiralling Out of Control The Spiralling Trilogy Book 1 eBook Michelle Dennis Evans Reviews
I feel that every teenager should read this book. Some 15yr olds who are advanced could certainly cope with it but otherwise from approx 17yrs old I feel. As an adult reader it kept my interest. I work a lot on the community & see a lot of girls like the main character wanting to 'fit' get into situations which certainly do spiral out of control. A very good read looking forward to the second book in the series.
Spiralling Out of Control Michelle Dennis Evans. This is as real as it gets. How easily a young person with no secure caregiver can move from a normal lifestyle to one ruined by drugs, alcohol and all the complexities of teenage sex.
This is no story for those who prefer to see a difficult life experience described in cotton wool. Well done Michelle, I couldn't put it down and am ready to read the next. Susan
I finished this book in 2 days. I did not want to put it down. It was very well written and I felt connected to Stephanie in the sense that when she was sad or going through situations I felt sad for her, when she made bad decisions I shook my head, ways such as that I think I had to remind myself a few times that it's just a book not real lol. Although the situations in this book are very very real for a lot of teenagers. This is a good read for all teenagers. Also for me,being set in Australia and reading the Aussie lingo made this book fun for me. I'm looking forward to the next book!
A lot of people will find this story confronting. The teenage angst oozes off the pages, making the main character both believable and confronting. ‘Telling it like it is’, is a hard and dangerous pill to swallow, and although I can’t say I found this story entirely enjoyable, the fact is, I don’t think it was written as a feel good read. I can see where this story will give parents a vital insight into the teenage mind, and it will give teenagers an insight into the slippery slope of bad decision making. It has amazing potential to inspire real change in both parenting, and teen attitudes. Read it.
Spiralling Out of Control by Michelle Dennis Evans was a little difficult to read because of differences in vocabulary and spelling between Australia and United States. Once I figured that out and could stop obsessing on what I at first thought were misspelled words, I enjoyed the book. The difference in age of majority and laws of the two countries caused me some confusion also. Why did that make a difference? Because of the options available to these teens that would not have been available in the United States. Once I had reconciled all this in my mind, I was able to grasp the storyline. By the fourth chapter, I couldn't put it down.
This is a story of a teenage girl who has few limits or restrictions placed on her. After moving to a new school, Stephanie discovers she is not welcome and sets out on a campaign to move back to her old town. But before she moves, she falls in love with Jason, an eighteen year old senior. Jason's parents work out of town so he and his brother have raised themselves with little parental influence.
Eventually Stephanie does move back to Sydney and living with her friend Tabbie, only to be followed by Jason who plans to attend university. Jason and Stephanie continue their courtship however, there are some major pitfalls. It becomes a mathematical equation. Two teens plus copious amounts of drugs and alcohol, divided by zero adult supervision equals disaster, ruined lives, unimaginable danger, and shattered dreams.
While I would recommend this book, I would recommend it be discussed by parents and teens. If my children had read this book when they were teens, I would have explained to them that some of my hovering, spying, paranoia, and out of control behavior was for their protection. These two faced decisions they were not emotionally mature enough to make. A strong adult and some well intended restrictions could have steered Stephanie and Jason in less hazardous directions.
Ms. Evans did a great job of showing teens the dangers of drugs and alcohol without preaching or nagging. I look forward to the sequels.
