I think a lot of ghosts and I hope they think well of me... there certainly are plenty of them to be had in this book, chock full of photos. Ms. Kinney has assembled stories and accounts from all over York County, James City County, Poquoson, West Point, Williamsburg, Gloucester County and nearby areas. She also did a large number of investigations herself. I liked the down-to-earth way she writes, as though sitting next to you sharing the events. The account of a young woman and her fiancee encountering Civil War soldiers taking part in a spectral hanging just outside their front yard was pretty neat! I work in wild places as part of my job and know the way briars, tree limbs and holes in the ground, hidden by vegetation, can trip a person, so I have to hand it to the author and her husband for braving the Crawford Road bridge embankment in the dark of the night, a cold one at that, no street lamps to guide her, to record any Electonic Voice Phenomena that she could.Tags : Virginia's Haunted Historic Triangle: Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, and Other Haunted Locations [Pamela K. Virginia Haunted Historic Triangle Williamsburg Yorktown Jamestown and Other Haunted Locations Pamela K Kinney 9780764337468 Books Reviews
Virginia's Haunted Historic Triangle by Pamela K. Kinney reminded me of fun nights sitting around a campfire telling ghost stories. I read until the wee hours, the hairs on the back of my neck tingling. Then I lay awake for hours listening for unusual sounds and wondering who might be wandering my attic.
From hotels with unregistered guests to lonely battlefields where the spirits of fallen confederate soldiers still fight or search for their way home, Ms. Kinney takes the reader on a fascinating tour of one of Virginia's most history-rich areas. As in the previous books of her Haunted series, she tells us where spirits roam, who they are presumed to be, and sometimes, why they can't rest.
Virginia's Historic Triangle was home to some of America's first settlers. Life in Jamestown in 1607 was difficult, and the colonists had to fight both Indians and starvation. Either means of death would have been cruel, and may explain why spectral figures are seen there today. Many of the old plantations in Charles City County are haunted. Ms. Kinney relates the history and stories surrounding these fascinating homes and her own experiences when she visited each location. The College of William and Mary is the second oldest college in the U.S. Its long history is rich, and stories of sighting apparitions have been passed down from student to student.
Whether you're a history buff or ghost chaser, Virginia's Haunted Historic Triangle is a must read. Plan to bring it with you when you visit Virginia. Follow Ms. Kinney's trail through Colonial Williamsburg, visit Revolutionary War and Civil War battle sites in Yorktown and hear the sounds of drums and fifes, meet the ghosts of Rosewell Plantation in Gloucester. Or if you can't visit the haunted locations yourself, see them through the author's eyes. You'll enjoy your trip immensely. - By Kathleen Mix, a Virginia reader
Experienced author Pamela K. Kinney has taken a very interesting area of Virginia and brought its important history to life.
In this book Pamela tells true stories and those of myth and legend. She writes of apparitions and unusual sightings, such as Bigfoot and UFOs. Pamela tells well known tales and some little known tales of this area. All of the tales are in or near this historic "haunted triangle" in Virginia.
The reader is taken on a tour of haunted plantations and houses, down historic haunted roads and across legendary bridges. Pamela tells the story of each place, elaborating on it by adding her own experiences and impressions.
The photography throughout the book is amazing in color and detail. Pamela Kinney is thorough in taking the reader on her journey through time in this historic area. She has written other paranormal books and is a master costumer, as well. She can be found on both her own website and Facebook.
This is a great book describing hauntings in the Greater Williamsburg area - where to go, what the legends and stories are and what is the history of the place. It covers Williamsburg - and in particular the historic area of CW, Jamestown, Yorktown, the James River Plantations in Charles City County and other locations on the Peninsula. If you are planning a trip to the area and have a taste for hauntings, this book would be perfect for you. Or if you're local and often visit the historic sites, it will give you all the history and the stories.
While I was in the middle of the book, I went back and looked over some pictures we had taken in Colonial Williamsburg over the last couple of years. I saw lots of orbs in the Governor's Palace and the Capital. Also a face in a window on an evening tour - stuff I never noticed before reading this book.
If you love the paranormal TV shows, you will love this book. It's a keeper!
This is the first Pamela K. Kinney's book that I read. For me, she did a wonderful work. There are many stories about Williamsburg, Colonial Williamsburg, York County, Jamestown Island, Charles City, Gloucester, Poquoson, Hampton and others.
The locations are various and plenty of history hotels, houses, taverns, hospitals, colleges, gaols, bridges, fields, roads, caves, farms and others. Reading the book, you will wish to visit these haunted places.
Many of these places have been visited by the author and she tells her experiences. Furthermore, the book includes a beautiful cover, many interesting color photos and a bibliography at the end. There is also a chapter about UFOs.
My favourite tales are Shields Tavern, Forced to Move, The Peyton Randolph House, Market Square Tavern, Creepy Crawford Road, Nelson House, Rosewell Plantation and The Cohoke Light.
Recommended reading for paranormal not fiction book lovers.
